For the current status
of the Data Warehouse database refer to the ADMCS Machine Status Web page.
Data Warehouse Database FAQ:
- What do I need to get easy access to the Data Warehouse? 1) a
Banner login; 2) run Bi-Qry from the Novell Application Launcher; 3) ODBC/SQLnet
drivers. See below for more information on these.
- Do I need to submit an Account request form to get access to the Data
Warehouse? If you already have access to Hydra's Banner system, you
already have access to the Data Warehouse with the same userid (call ADMCS
Help Desk for password). However, you do need to submit an E-mail to the
proper custodian of the data (Joe St. Hillaire for Student Information)
to get access to the appropriate data in the Data Warehouse. If you do
not already have a Hydra Banner login account then you do need to submit
a completed Hydra Account Request Form to ADMCS Help Desk and a User Access
Request to the Registrar's Office.
- Why do I get the message “RUNDLL Error Loading –S The specified module
could not be found”? This message pops up on Windows 2000 machines
after the initial install or reinstall of working files used to run the
BIQry application. It does not seem to have any effect on the performance
or integrity of the product and does not come up on subsequent reboots.
Ignore this message.
- What times will the Data Warehouse be available? The Data Warehouse
will be available from 8:00am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday.
- What software do I need to be able to access the Data Warehouse?
The tools required include Hummingbird’s Bi-Query end-user query tool and
the Oracle ODBC/SQLnet drivers. To install the drivers, click on the ODBC
INSTALL Icon from the Novell Application Launcher. To start Bi-Query simply
double click on the Bi-Qry icon in the Novell Application Launcher. The
first time you perform this it will take several minutes. Subsequent launchings
should be faster.
Bi-Query Front-end to the Data Warehouse
Database FAQ:
- How do I get a copy of the Bi-Query Front-end (a DATAW model) so I
can start running reports and writing my own reports? Assuming you have
a repository logon and password, have access to appropriate data in the
data model, can run BI-Qry from the application launcher…do double-click
on the BI-Qry icon on the application launcher. Then from the BI Broker
Login, enter your user name and password and press the OK button. Then
select repository data model. From the RETRIEVE DATA MODEL window, on left
hand side select AA_Dataw folder, and then from right side select DATAW.
Push the OK button and the model will be downloaded to your C: drive for
your use. At the end of your session, be sure to publish your model if
you want to preserve your changes.
- How do I SAVE new reports that I create so I can run them again when
I want? . Publish your reports back to the repository.
To publish your report – choose FILE>PUBLISH.
- How do I get Data Warehouse changes made by ADMCS? RETRIEVE the
DATAW model from the repository and the latest copy of all the centrally
maintained data definitions and reports are copied to your copy giving you
all the latest changes. This synchronization may take a couple minutes.
- When synchronization occurs do I loose any changes or additions I've
made to my DATAW? If you follow this rule you will always be safe.
Publish your reports and changes to the model back to the repository.
To publish your model or report – choose FILE>PUBLISH. NOTE: Your model
will always be published back to folder where the model came from – for
the DATAW model, the folder is AA_Dataw.
- I just realized I ran a query/report incorrectly - How do I
stop it? ? The model is implemented with a governor (a regulating
device) that prompts the user after 500 records or five minutes. A box
will pop up that will ask you if you would like to continue or stop. Another
way to stop the query/report process is to push the traffic light icon on
the tool bar.
- Where can I get training? HR will be conducting classes on running
and writing Bi-Query reports against the Data Warehouse. The URL for the Training &
Development website is http://www.acadweb.wwu.edu/hr/training/
The URL for the class objectives and prerequisites (training manual) for
the BI/Query User & BI/Query Reports Fundamentals class is is http://www.acadweb.wwu.edu/hr/training/itt/itcourse/BI.htm
- Where can I get help? If you need
help getting set up properly or need basic Bi-Query help contact ADMCS Help
Desk, x2853.
- Where do I get help on interpreting the data? If you need help
on "what the data means" contact
Sharon Schmidtz at the Institutional Research office, 650-3087.
- How do I delete a report? The current release does not support
deleting reports by a general BI-Query User. To solve this problem, we
have created a folder called “ZZ_DELETE_FOLDER”. Every day, operations
staff will open this folder and delete its contents. So, if a user wants
to delete a report, they should publish their report to this folder, and
the next day it will disappear.
- What does the message “ORA-00942 – Table or View does not exists” mean?
You do not have the proper access to the oracle tables. To find out what
tables you have access to…go to help (under the Old Main picture) then click
on “Table Privileges”. Log on to the database and a report will be run
that shows what tables you have access to. If you see tables missing in
the report, you may need to talk to the data custodian - see question “Do
I need to submit an Account request form to get access to the Data Warehouse?“.
- How do I change my BI-Query User password?
Log on to repository (BI_QUERY/USER) using current
login id and password. Close the model selection or select a model, then
do the following from the menu bar. Do Edit>User info. Click change password
button. Change your password, old/new technique. Press OK button. Press
OK button.
