WWU Campus-wide Network Western has a campus-wide network that provides the campus community with connectivity to all campus computing resources and the Internet. The network is made up of a combination of routers, data switches, hubs, and wiring. Typically, user workstations (PCs) are connected with copper wiring to a data switch in a wiring closet. The data switch is then connected to another switch or to one or more routers. The routers are connected to other routers. Almost all on-campus buildings are connected via fiber optic cabling. Wiring within buildings are a combination of fiber optic and copper cabling. Efforts are being made to bring all cabling up to at least the CAT5 level. General student, housing, and faculty/staff modem pools are connected to the Western network. Telecommunications Services maintains the router programming configurations and Technical Services makes campus IP number assignments.
