About K-12 STUDY CANADA
K-12 STUDY CANADA is the name given to the shared K-12 outreach efforts by the Canadian Studies Center, Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, and the Center for Canadian-American Studies, Western Washington University. Our two centers jointly form the Pacific Northwest National Resource Center for Canada, one of only two National Resource Centers for Canada in the United States funded by the U.S. Department of Education with the mandate to provide education to students, educators and the community about Canada.
As a National Resource Center, K-12 STUDY CANADA offers a wealth of learning opportunities for teachers. We provide a variety of one-day educator workshops at UW each quarter on specific Canadian topics, a K-12 resource flier that is published twice a year, presentations and displays on Canada at local, regional and national conferences, monthly email resource updates to our "network" of teachers, an extensive film-loaning library at UW and several teacher resource kits for loan from WWU. In addition, each summer, two week-long educator workshops are offered at WWU, including the annual STUDY CANADA Summer Institute which has provided K-12 teachers with a strong foundation for teaching Canada since 1978. Both centers continue to expand their collections of curriculum materials and multimedia resources so that teachers can bring Canada to life in their classrooms.
Funding for the Pacific Northwest Resource Center for Canada (K-12 STUDY CANADA) is provided by a US Department of Education Title VI Grant. Additional funding for outreach is from an annual Program Enhancement Grant from the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC.
Nadine Fabbi, Associate Director at the Canadian Studies Center, UW, and Tina Storer, Education and Curriculum Specialist at the Center for Canadian-American Studies, WWU, are the driving forces behind K-12 STUDY CANADA. They welcome the opportunity to bring Canada into your classroom--their expertise and teaching experience is available to regional school boards, individual schools, superintendents, principals, and students interested in K-12 curriculum instruction, delivery and materials on Canada .
