Our Commitment to Diversity

The Counseling Center is committed to providing services with sensitivity to a campus community diverse in age, race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religious and ethical beliefs, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, and the differently-abled. We endeavor to treat all students with the utmost respect and concern. Our staff works to maintain knowledge of the diverse identities and concerns of students. We also maintain collaborative working relationships with the Ethnic Student Center, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Alliance, Veterans’ Outreach Center, disAbility Resources, and many other offices and organizations on campus that serve Western students. Various members of our staff participate in activities sponsored by these organizations and continually seek opportunities for increasing our working relationships with a diverse university population. We include questions about our sensitivity to diversity on our annual survey to our clients and are pleased that in past years we have received high ratings from our clients on these questions. We are eager to hear students’ comments and suggestions for ways we can improve our services with full sensitivity to diversity.
