Welcome to the Center for Service Learning! Service-Learning is an experiential learning method that combines academic instruction with community-based learning by connecting learning objectives to service objectives. It enhances student learning and civic awareness through "hands-on," community-based learning connected to relevant classroom and co-curricular experiences. Service-Learning teaching is a pedagogy that combines academic learning with community-based learning.  It links theory with practice while addressing important community issues.

Our Mission: The Center for Service-Learning exists to facilitate quality educational experiences through community-based service-learning. The Center connects campus and community resources to create diverse learning experiences and to serve community needs. Its programs integrate the academic, service and reflection components of service-learning by providing resources, including training and technical assistance, to students, faculty and community. In doing this, the Center advances Western Washington University's goals of quality, diversity and community service.

Our Vision: Knowledge, Action, Reflection, Transformation Where scholarly service is the bridge uniting learning with social responsibility. Where community is the classroom, and the classroom is the community.
