New Service-Learning Attribute Added to Classfinder
The Registrar’s Office has created the attribute ‘SL’ to designate course sections that have a service-learning component. This attribute can be applied to specific CRNs at the Schedule Level only. During Registration students can search in ‘Look Up Classes to Add’ by using the SL attribute in Classfinder. If the departments or programs feel it is necessary to also include some kind of text that shows up in Classfinder/Timetable for the specific sections – they can add that in SSATEXT for the specific course section. No details will be maintained at the Banner Catalog level.
There are a couple of caveats to the above:
- For any course sections that roll over to the following year’s schedule – the department must check that the SL attribute is still applicable to that course section.
- The same applies for the text details that will roll over to the following year’s schedule – the department must check the text details when proofing their schedules to ensure that service learning text not applicable to the new course sections is left unedited.
If you would like to identify a course you teach as including a service component, please complete the CSL’s
2011 Fall Faculty Survey by Thursday, November 10. Faculty who already identified their courses through the survey will receive a follow-up email to ensure they would like the attribute added. If you have any questions, please contact Alex at
alex.allyne@wwu.edu or x7518.
Many thanks to the Catalog and Registar’s Office for their work to make this attribute possible.
