Service-learning Faculty Fellows Program
Western Washington University faculty may apply for our nationally recognized Service-Learning Faculty Fellows Program. The Faculty Fellows Program introduces participants to the service-learning pedagogy, and prepares faculty for integrating service-learning into their courses. It is also an opportunity to build collegial relationships with other instructors from across disciplines, sometimes leading to collaborative research.
Service-Learning Faculty Fellows meet monthly as a group to explore academic service-learning theories and effective implementation and assessment strategies. Faculty Fellows work together to share ideas, revise syllabi, develop community partnerships, and design community-based learning projects that meet course learning objectives.
Program Benefits:
- An excellent professional development opportunity.
- A $500 course development stipend upon completion of the program.
- Course construction consultations.
- Best practice, assessment, and research information and a service-learning faculty manual.
Program Requirements:
- Integrate one service-learning course annually.
- Participate in a half-day service-learning workshop at the beginning of the fall quarter.
- Attend a monthly, two-hour meeting with other Service-Learning Faculty Fellows to discuss service-learning pedagogy and other issues.
- Share the results of your participation in the program via a course outcome summary and program reflection submitted at the end of the academic year.
