Pre-Health Sciences Advising

As part of our ongoing effort to educate students on the opportunities available to them in health sciences after graduating from Western, and to support them in completing requirements for admission into health sciences programs, we created the Pre-Health Sciences Advising program. This program will help students navigate through the different requirements they must meet in order to be eligible for entry into such post-baccalaureate programs as medicine (physicians, physician’s assistant), dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, and osteopathy.

The program’s director is Dr. George Kriz, Professor of Chemistry, who will be working in conjunction with the University Advising office and appropriate departments to provide support to interested students. Dr. Kriz has experience and in-depth knowledge of the sciences and the role the sciences play in the pre-health sciences. He will provide direct advising, organize the overall program effort, assign faculty sub-advisors from several departments, and oversee relations with the external area medical arts community.

The program will also have an advisory committee whose membership comes from the WWU advising office, the WWU faculty and local physicians in the Bellingham community. This group will advise the program on general issues, and will support the program in efforts such as mock interviews and education/workshop activities.
