As a matter of university policy, students are expected to attend classes as scheduled. However, subject to acceptable documentation being submitted, a Non-medical Leave of Absence may be granted through the Student Life office for reasons such as:
*Note: Immediate family member
means a parent, sibling, spouse, or child. Emergencies
are unavoidable events outside the control of the student that
cannot be postponed.
A non-medical leave of absence may be granted for two days, but no more than five days, during an academic quarter or summer session. Leave is not granted for one day, unless the absence would adversely impact the student’s grade, for example because of a missed test or quiz. Unless circumstances make prior application impossible, students are expected to request leave prior to an absence.
Whenever it is impractical for the student to make-up missed work or assignments, the student should discuss the matter with their academic advisor or a counselor in Academic Advising Services, Old Main 380, x7910.
If a student is unable to attend classes because of an injury or illness, a Medical Leave of Absence may be applied for through the Student Health Center. A medical leave of absence will not be granted without proper diagnosis and/or documentation. For further details, please contact the Student Health Center.
