disAbility Resources for Students
Western Washington University

Procedure 10: Requesting Assistive Listening Systems
(Adopted September 10, 2001).

After disAbility Resources for Students (DRS) completes a Needs Assessment for the student and determines that the student is qualified to use the University's Assistive Listening Systems (ALS), the student is responsible for initiating the ALS check out process.

1. Action by Student:
  • Completes an Equipment Loan Authorization card. (This card is available at the ATUS Equipment Loan desk in Miller Hall 155 or from DRS in Old Main 110.)
  • Asks a representative from DRS to sign the card in the Faculty Authorization section.
2. Action by DRS: Signs the Equipment Loan Authorization card.

3. Action by Student:
  • Delivers the card to the ATUS Equipment Loan Desk.
  • Checks out a headset from ATUS.
  • Returns the headset to ATUS at the end of the check out period.
Important Notes:
  • The student is financially responsible for loss or damage of the ALS headphones beyond what is considered normal wear and tear.
  • Headsets will periodically lose their charge. The student should return a depleted headset to the ATUS Equipment Loan desk and exchange it for one that is fully charged.
