disAbility Resources for Students
Western Washington University

Procedure 3: Request a Notetaking Accommodation (Effective August 27, 2001).

After disAbility Resources for Students(DRS) completes a Needs Assessment for the student and determines that the student is qualified to receive a notetaking accommodation, the student must initiate the request.

1. Action by Student: Contacts DRS and requests a notetaking accommodation.

2. Action by DRS: Provides the student with a copy card to copy notetaker's notes.

3. Action by Student:
  • Asks other students in class to share notes or asks the professor to announce that a notetaker is needed.
  • Renews copy card through DRS when card is empty.
  • Returns card to DRS at the end of the quarter.
Important Notes:
  • DRS does not provide a person to take notes. The student must find another enrolled student who is in class or willing to sit in on the class and take notes.
  • DRS will provide the student with a copy card or carbon paper at no cost to make copies of the notetaker's notes.
  • Notetaker's who request payment will receive minimum wage after they process employment forms with DRS.
