Horses for IHSA shows are donated by the local equestrian community. Each rider randomly draws a
horse to compete with in their class. Riders are not given an opportunity to warm up the horse or ride it prior to their
class; however riders can watch someone else warm up the horse and ask questions of the horses owner.
Classes in which we compete are:
Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat
Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences
Western Equitation
Reining
By judging all classes on equitation and having random draws, IHSA is a true test of a riders ability.
Riders receive points for their placings and "point up" to the next level when they receive 35 points in their respective division. In all levels except Open, points roll-over from year-to-year, so riders have ample opportunity to acheive this goal. Also when a rider earns 33 points, they qualify for the Regional Show at the end of the year. A first or second place at this show will earn riders a trip to Semi-Finals! Points are awarded as follows:
| IHSA Point System | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Placing | Ribbon | Color | Points |
| First | Blue | Seven (7) | |
| Second | Red | Five (5) | |
| Third | Yellow | Four (4) | |
| Fourth | White | Three (3) | |
| Fifth | Pink | Two (2) | |
| Sixth | Green | One (1) | |
