Graduate School Survey
Name (Optional):
Department/Graduate Program:
1) What obligation does WWU have as a comprehensive university to offer graduate programs at the Master’s level in selected fields to satisfy State and/or disciplinary needs?
2) How do graduate students contribute to (detract from) the undergraduate learning environment in your department?
3) How does the presence of graduate students contribute to (detract from) the active scholarship potential of your department/discipline?
4) What specific problems do you see that are presently limiting the value of, and opportunities for, graduate education programs at WWU?
5) Although WWU has a graduate faculty consisting of faculty who are in some way involved in graduate education, it is not clear what actual role it plays or should play. Should a graduate faculty be activated, with a clear set of goals and responsibilities? If so, what should they be?
6) Presently graduate students are represented in some fashion by the Associated Students. Because the nature of graduate student activity and needs are different from those of undergraduates, should a separate graduate student organization be formed?
7) Does your department presently have a graduate program? If not, would you be interested in implementing one (in what discipline and why); if yes, are there other opportunities for graduate programs in your field that should be implemented (in what discipline and why)?
8) Please add any other comments that you feel are pertinent to the strategic analysis of graduate education at WWU.
