Dr. George Mariz has been teaching Western students about the intellectual and cultural history of Europe for 38 years. He holds B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He has published widely on intellectual and cultural history, and spent spring quarter 2001 abroad in Oxford, England, where he worked on a study of Thomas Arnold, a nineteenth-century religious and educational reformer. Outside the classroom, George's hobbies include bicycling, theatre, music, and architecture. He and his wife also love traveling, especially to France and Italy.
Carla Pederson has been working as an office assistant in the Honors Program for 21 years, and enjoys talking with prospective and current Honors students. In her free time, Carla enjoys kayaking and skiing. She has been married for 31 years, and is very proud of her two sons, a Marine officer and a mechanical engineer.
