Community journalism:
By the people, for the people and of the people
By Matthew Anderson
No fewer than 1,238 of the 1,456 daily U.S. newspapers are small and
think of themselves as community papers. The nation’s 8,000 weeklies
lean toward that appellation, too (Giles, 2006). Most of the content in
America’s newspapers comes from small towns. Journalists in these
areas report regularly on churches, neighborhoods, community groups and
local clubs. —>
