Title:
Transition Math Project: College Readiness Standards
Speaker:
Bill Moore, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges
Abstract: The Transition Math Project (http:www/transitionmathproject.org) is a collaborative project
involving math faculty from K-12 schools, community and technical colleges, and baccalaureate institutions,
and is supported by state agencies and business leadership.
The ultimate goal of the project is to help more students make a smooth and successful transition from high
school to college-level work in math and other disciplines requiring mathematical reasoning by helping more of
them be "college-ready" when they enter postsecondary education.
The initial phase of the project involves establishing a set of standards defining what students need to know
and be able to do to be college-ready with respect to mathematics and quantitative reasoning.
On November 4th Dr. Bill Moore, the project director and coordinator of assessment, teaching, and learning for
the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges , will be providing more details about the project, sharing
the working draft of these Readiness Standards, and inviting participation in both responding to the language and
substance of the standards and discussing the potential implications of defining and implementing such expectations.
