Day:
Thursday November 18
Time: 4:00pm
Place: BH 112
Title:
Assumptions involved in modeling pension plans
Speaker:
Steven Bland, Actuary, Symetra Financial
Abstract: In recent years advances in computing power have led to widespread utilization of modeling in
business applications. As powerful as these models may be they are only as good as the assumptions
used.
This talk will discuss how assumptions are developed, monitored, and revised, pitfalls, and constraints.
Examples are drawn from funding a pension plan where model output will determine actual cash contributions.
There are no prerequisites for this talk, though a general math or business background will be helpful.
