Purchasing is committed to facilitating the campus community’s efforts in obtaining the goods and services needed to support the mission of the University. Purchasing will conduct procurement activities in accordance with all local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations while providing full accountability to the public on the utilization of public resources.
Purchasing addresses a wide range of needs from the various colleges and administrative operations of Western Washington University. We are responsible for the procurement of all goods and services required by all departments both here at the Bellingham campus and at our remote sites. Purchased goods range from office supplies to computers; from lab equipment to magazines. Purchased services range from repairs to vending services; from armored transport to bus charters. Services such as consulting, marketing research and some types of training are considered personal services.
We have contracts in place for many recurring needs. We use contracts from the Washington State Office of State Procurement, contracts we have bid and placed here locally, and contracts which exist through cooperative buying arrangements such as the WSCA or KCDA.
Departments are allowed to place orders directly with vendors for their needs up to $1000 using either their PCard or a department order. Anything over $3000 generally must be competitively bid, and anything over $42,300 must be solicited by advertised, sealed bids.
We are always interested in finding new potential sources of supply. You will find our open Request for Quotes and Request for Proposals at this site, which you may download and respond to if you wish. There is also a vendor information form where you can provide details about your company, and we will consider you for future quote requests.
