Faculty Support

Research Support for Limited Term Faculty

Research Support for Emeriti Professors

Support for Journal Editing

Matching Equipment Funds

Funds are available to match external dollars received to purchase research equipment. Such funds are limited to the amount budgeted to the RSP for the purpose. (No deadline--submit memo of request to the RSP.)

Publication Support

The RSP will assist with the costs of reprints (up to $100 per article) and page charges (up to $1,000). (No deadline--submit a memo of request to the RSP.)

Manuscript Preparation

The RSP will assist with the with the preparation of manuscripts for publication up to $1,500 per book. Use the RSP's Esign Funding Request Form or PDF Funding Request Form

Mini-Grants

Up to $1,000 for incidental materials, supplies, or services. These requests are reviewed within the RSP. (No deadline--complete funding request form and submit it to the RAC in care of the Research and Sponsored Programs.)

Grants in Aid

Through the Research Advisory Committee (RAC), small grants (up to $2,500) are awarded to assist faculty with research and/or creative activities. (No deadline--complete funding request form and submit it to the RAC in care of the Research and Sponsored Programs.)

Pilot Project Funding

Through the Research Advisory Committee, grants for up to $4,000 are awarded to assist faculty in initiating pilot projects which will generate data needed to develop proposals for extramural funding. (No deadline--complete the funding request form, include a 2-3 page description of project and its potential, attach a list of publications and grants over the past three years and submit this to the RAC.)

Project Development Awards

Awards will be made twice a year for the equivalent of one quarter release time (spread over at least two quarters during the academic year) during which a faculty member will develop a proposal for extramural funding. (Application deadlines will be announced.)

Summer Research Grants

Grants of $5,000 are awarded during Fall Quarter to provide half-time salary support for the following Summer. (Deadlines and eligibility requirements are announced in FAST.)

Summer Teaching Grants

Summer support grant of $5,000 to full time faculty to engage in projects related to the enhancement of instructional quality. Faculty applicants must be employed full-time by WWU for the year preceding the summer grant and have a contract for the following academic year.

Faculty Development Grants

Grants of up to $1,500 are available to individual faculty members and up to $2,500 to departments for improvement of teaching, scholarship/creative activity, or service.

Border Policy Research Institute

The Border Policy Research Institute (BPRI) is a multi-disciplinary research institute located at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. The mission of the BPRI is to provide policy-makers with high-quality unbiased research on policy issues related to the Canada -- U.S. border. Research focus areas include trade, freight and passenger mobility, security, immigration and labor, environment, and energy. The BPRI will award funding for research focused upon one or more of the above-listed topics, but with particular implications for transportation.

Fund for the Enhancement of Graduate Research

Graduate student research awards are designed to assist students in accomplishing their thesis work.

Research and Creative Opportunities for Undergraduates

Undergraduate student awards are designed to encourage students to participate in research and/or creative work in their disciplines.

Program in Support of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Excellence

The program provides prestigious, competitive awards to outstanding undergraduates who wish to pursue a specific research, scholarly or creative activities under the mentorship of a faculty member. Both the faculty mentor and the student receive stipends under this program.
