Classes & Registration
Registration Policy
Due to high demand, registration for most 300-level courses is restricted to declared Sociology majors for the first 5 class days of registration-Phase I (see Classfinder for courses designed as major restricted). All 200-level courses are open to all students, including Soc 210 and 215. Restrictions for 300-level courses will be removed starting on the 6th day of Phase I. If space is available, non-majors will be able to register for 300-level courses at that time. See below for instructions on overrides for filled classes.
Transfer Students! Contact the Sociology advisor for advising and registration, in advance of the registration period.
Overrides for Sociology Classes
If a class requires an override (or if it's full), submit an Override Request Form to the instructor.
Please note:
- Some instructors may reply during Phase I of registration, depending on space availability.
- Other instructors will wait until registration closes, and all declared majors have had a chance to register.
- Some classes may open up to non-majors, so you should continue to check Classfinder. The override restriction may have been removed.
- If you have not been granted an override before the class starts-- Attend the first day of class. Overrides will be granted if there is space available at that time.
400-Level Courses Requiring Permission
To register for Soc 400, you will need an Independent Study Registration Permit Card signed by the instructor. Cards are available from the Sociology Department Office (AH 510), or from the Sociology Advisor (AH 513). Once this card is completed, turn it in to the Registrar's Office to finalize registration. For Soc 471, 480, 481 or 492, you will need permission from the instructor and the Sociology Advisor will enter an override so you can register.
