Bill Reed African American Scholarship
The Bill Reed African American Scholarship is a renewable annual award based on merit and need. The scholarship provides support exclusively for African American undergraduate students who have been admitted to Western.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:- The scholarship shall provide support exclusively for African American students who are undergraduate students at Western Washington University, or to those students who have been admitted to Western Washington University.
- Minimum eligibility requirements are defined as a full-time student who maintains a minimum 3.00 GPA. If a student’s GPA falls below a 3.00 GPA in any given year, the student must personally make his or her appeal to the scholarship committee to continue receiving the scholarship funding. Only one quarter in any school year may fall below a 3.00 GPA and under no circumstances will funding be continued if the student’s GPA falls below 2.50 GPA.
- A student may apply for the scholarship more than once as long as the student receives the scholarship for no more than four years of his or her undergraduate study. A student who has received the scholarship in any given year will receive priority preference to receive the scholarship again as long as minimum eligibility requirements are met.
- This scholarship funding may benefit applicants in any program, however preference shall be given to students majoring in business, communication or computer science. No applicant shall be funded beyond 75 percent of his or her total cost for tuition and housing. Housing costs shall be based on a shared living arrangement.
