• Campus Awareness Mentor Project (CAMP)

Welcome to CAMP!

Western Washington University’s Campus Awareness Mentor Project is made up of upper class students who help, advise, and provide resources for incoming first-year students. As active student leaders, Peer Mentors share personal experiences to assist and help ease the transition from high school and other colleges to Western’s campus.

Want to get involved in clubs, intramural sports or student government and affairs? Ask your peer mentor! Mentors provide students with the help needed to find a place at Western. Peer mentors provide a student’s perspective on the best food market, know-how regarding bus routes and other transportation needs, insight to who the best and worst professors are, and send alerts on upcoming events and concerts!

How does it work?

How does it work? First-year students apply to ONE (Our Network of Experience), a group of first-year success programs through Student Outreach Services. Once selected, mentors and mentees are matched based on compatibility questions, extracurricular activities, and academic interests.

The purpose of a mentoring relationship in college is to assist students with the challenges associated with the first year. CAMP provides academic and personal support and build bridges between their first-year mentees and the student service departments across campus. This means that students have a ready resource for questions ranging from where how to get involved I student activities to how to add a class or declare a major.

One of the primary goals of the Peer Mentoring Program is to foster excellence through social and academic integration. Mentors are recognized student leaders on Western’s campus and look forward to helping new students reach their potential.
