Programs
Welcome to the Student Outreach Services (SOS) programs page! Student Outreach Services offers a number of programs to assist students make the most of their time at Western and help to assure their success as they continue their college careers.
Adhering to the SOS mission statement, SOS programs are aimed at helping a wide spectrum of students while addressing the specific needs of each individual. Experienced in assisting students of multicultural backgrounds, SOS understands the specific needs of multicultural, first-generation, underrepresented, and non-traditional students. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we offer student-specific programs and customized academic tools and support to help students transition to Western, meet their goals, overcome personal hardship, and achieve academic success. Our team cultivates an open and respectful atmosphere, yielding authentic interaction with a diverse body of students.

Other SOS Programs
Vikings 101 Orientation
Reassuring students and parents that Western is a great choice, the SOS Vikings 101 orientation connects students and parents to the SOS family. Students invited to Vikings 101 move into their dorms one day early, meet their mentor and ASC, and begin connecting to other students in their program cohort. Parents receive their own special treatment beginning with a casual welcome, a Parents 101 course, and Parent graduation. Students, parents, and the SOS family come back together to end the orientation with a kickoff barbecue or other special event.
Campus Awareness Mentoring Project (CAMP)
Concerts, clubs, best philosophy professor, intramural sports, best food market, football games, bus routes – there’s no better way to learn about the campus and community then from the students who’ve been there, done that. Western’s CAMP mentors provide guidance and advising and bring a wealth of student experiences to the peer mentoring program. Peer mentors ease the transition from high school to college for all first-year students in SOS programs. Promoting campus involvement, academic success, and student independence, peer mentors provide a familiar face and an approachable campus contact.
