STUDY GROUPS

"Thank you so much for all of your help.  I never would have had the benefit of a study group if the Tutorial Center didn't set them up since it's so hard to get together with people I don't know (especially so early in the quarter)."

-an actual student email

"Having a study group definitely helps keep me focused and to go over the material more than once."

-Madison Nikkola, student

We know from research and from our own experience that participation in study groups is an excellent way for students to supplement their individual study.  Students who have been in study groups in previous quarters have found it very helpful as a way to compare notes, work on assignments, discuss the material, and prepare for exams.

Here are some tips for starting a study group of your own:

  • Ask people sitting near you in class - look for students who are attentive, take notes, and have good attendance.
  • Ask friends in the same class.
  • Write a note on the board before class advertising for other study group members (you should check with your professor before doing this).
  • Post a notice in your residence hall (and nearby residence halls as well).
