Security of Campus Facilities
Access to academic and administrative buildings after regular hours is made by appropriate authorization only. University Police post an online schedule of times that these buildings are locked and unlocked. Residence hall entrances are locked 24 hours a day; for more information see the University Residences section below.
Approximately 30,000 keys for offices and buildings are closely controlled by the University Lockshop and by the heads of departments and units. Individuals must sign out keys through the University Lockshop. Reproduction of keys is authorized only by the Office of Space Administration, which also is responsible for authorizing re-keying of locks when a key holder loses a key.
University Police believe in crime prevention through environmental design and officers regularly review building and renovation plans to ensure campus security.
University Police Officers and Greencoats regularly patrol the campus and report hazardous conditions and unsecured doors and windows in academic buildings and residence halls. Police Officers, Greencoats, and other members of the WWU community also report malfunctioning lights and other unsafe physical conditions to the Facilities Maintenance Office for correction. Facilities and landscaping are maintained in a manner that minimizes hazardous conditions.
