2005-2006 Scholarship Recipients

Katherine Shulock & Jasmine Sheldon

 

Jasmine Sheldon is working towards a Fairhaven College degree with a concentration in Global Women's Studies: Working Towards International Solidarity.  Sheldon is a member of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, the Coalition for Women's Reproductive Rights, and has also been a Radical Cheerleader at WWU.  During the 2004-2005 school year Sheldon worked as a Co-Coordinator for the Women's Center.

 

Katherine Shulock is working towards a self-designed degree in Women Studies.  Shulock holds a position on the President's List and has served as the president of Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance.  Shulock has also performed in the Vagina Monologues and has been a volunteer with the Patsy Collins Adventure in Leadership Program for Girls.

Scholarship

Qualifications

Scholarship applicants must be Women Studies Minors, Majors or Concentrations who demonstrate a passion for, and an advanced knowledge of Women Studies and are in excellent academic standing. Students should be full-time (at least 12 credits) undergraduates.

Requirements

Interested persons must submit an application packet for consideration. Application packets consist of:

· Official WWU transcripts, sealed and mailed directly to the Women Studies office.

· One letter of recommendation from WWU and/or Fairhaven Women Studies faculty member, mailed directly to the Women Studies Office. Applicants should have their advisor's/recommender's address their specific engagement in Women Studies.

· A personal statement addressing the applicant's background, interest and goals with regard to the academic program of Women Studies and any community service or activism in the Women Studies arena.

· A completed scholarship application. Applications can be picked up in the Women Studies Office, Miller Hall 177, or e-mail or call us and we will send one to you.

Evaluation Criterion

The scholarship recipient will be selected by the Women Studies Scholarship committee; scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria: academic excellence, directed focus in Women Studies as evidenced by the number of courses taken, ISPs, and progress toward minor, major or concentrations, writing sample (essay) demonstrating competence in Women Studies theory and practices, strong letters of recommendation, evidence of commitment to Women Studies and feminism, and Women Studies service activism.
