Admissions to the Department of Design are accepted on a yearly schedule. Students intending to major in Design are required to apply to the Department of Design via the departmental portfolio review. After acceptance to the Department, majors take the Foundations and the upper division Core. The Core gives all students a basic design education and prepares them to master the techniques of the design process. Design majors are also required to complete a minor as part of the BA in Design.

Students may also graduate with a BFA in Design. Admission to the BFA is by portfolio review during the winter quarter of the Design Core and requires completion of Design 330, 350, 360, 485 and enrollment in Design 340, 351, 361. A summer internship is required for the BFA. The senior year will be composed of quarterly seminars focusing upon current topics in design. The BFA in Design is a 115 credit degree.
