Woodring College of Education’s Search Committee Diversity Representative
The Woodring College of Education's Diversity Committee provides representation on all education faculty searches in an effort to meet the college's goal of attracting and retaining an increasingly diverse faculty.
The following questions were developed to guide DC search committee representatives during candidate interview process:
- Describe what diversity means within the context of (whatever the job is--- teacher education, special education, human resources, adult ed, instructional technology, etc.). What is your personal perspective on institutionalizing diversity concepts within the curriculum?
- A disproportionate number of students of color are presently enrolled in our programs. Please discuss ideas for diversifying the teacher education student body, and explain your perspective on suitable approaches for preparing our students to teach in a diverse society?
- How, and in what classes, would you address multicultural issues as they relate to preparation of professional educators?
- Identify an issue or trend that you think will be “center stage” in the field of multicultural or diversity education during the next 5 years, and discuss the impact of this issue or trend the preparation of professional educators.
- What experiences have you had teaching children who come from different backgrounds (e.g. familial, cultural, socio-economic, etc.)? What did those experiences tell you about the unique needs of such children?
