WLA for Freshmen and Transfers in the Residence Halls

It's important that freshmen, and students transferring in to Western, know what kind of leadership journey is possible for them.  During any quarter, the LEADS program, working jointly with Residence Life and the Residence Hall Councils in your hall, or working with you, can present an overview of Western's Leadership Advantage- the Karen W. Morse Leadership Institute and the LEADS program..  This program can be scheduled in any residence hall, in counjuction with a Residence Hall Council meeting, for example, or as a program. You can invite all students in the residence hall to attend. Call us at 360-650-4190 or email us Margaret.Chappel@wwu.edu, and talk to our student staff if you would like to make this happen.

The program is offered in the residence halls and includes the following:

• An Introduction to Western's Leadership Advantage-Your Leadership Journey at WWU (short presentation/film)

• A brief exercise to have you thinking about your leadership on campus

 

WLA for All Students

Western Washington University has hundreds of student leaders on campus, and even more emerging leaders.  As students, many of you serve in paraprofessional leadership roles in your academic departments, academic institutes and centers, student governance, service learning, pre-professional and co-curricular club leadership, assisting student service and support offices and so on. Also, L.E.A.D.S. has initiated LeaderCorps, a leadership peer educator program so that students can teach other students leadership skills and practices.  A course each spring, SAA 340 Paraprofessional Advising-Peer Leadership Education, provides students with their training to be in LeaderCorps.
