Academic Centers Across the Academy

Wonderful student leadership opportunities occur in academic centers which do not reside in one particular College. A couple of examples of student leadership opportunities are in the following Centers:
Center for Service Learning
The Center for Service-Learning exists to facilitate quality educational experiences through community-based service-learning. The Center connects campus and community resources to create diverse learning experiences and to serve community needs. Its programs integrate the academic, service and reflection components of service-learning by providing resources, including training and technical assistance, to students, faculty and community. In doing this, the Center advances Western Washington University's goals of quality, diversity and community service. This is the optimal opportunity for students to learn while practicing the art of servant leadership!
Teaching-Learning Academy
The Teaching-Learning Academy (TLA) , with its emphasis on teaching and learning, also allows core volunteer students to develop and hone the leadership practice of dialogue and dialogue-facilitation, creating spaces for student, staff and faculty voices.
The TLA seeks to provide a cross-disciplinary space for understanding, and developing recommendations about ways in which learning can be enhanced throughout the University. TLA creates a structure for integrating student voices into institutional initiatives for enhancing learning. Through year-long dialogue processes, the WWU community of students, faculty, and staff participate in dialogues directed towards enhanced teaching and learning, and meant to optimize the voice of each participant.
