Exchange Programs
An integral component of the major is the study abroad experience. All students are encouraged to spend a summer, quarter or year of study in East Asia and to receive credit for course work in an approved program.
Programs in Japan include Asia University, Obirin University, and Tsuda College.
A formal Western Washington University program with a faculty resident director guiding study of Chinese was established at Yunnan University in Kunming in 2001. Students studying Chinese also participate in programs sponsored by other American universities in Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei.
Korean studies are conducted at Yonsei University and Seoul Women's College through a formal arrangement.
Mongolian studies are arranged individually with institutions such as Inner Mongolia University.
