Intensive English Program (IEP)

Intensive English Program Mission Statement

To foster quality academic English language learning experiences in order to assist post-secondary students in reaching their personal and professional goals and to help internationalize Western Washington University.

Western’s Intensive English Program (IEP) offers a pathway for English as a Second Language (ESL) learners into one of the U.S.’s top public universities.  Our IEP helps students learn English for business or social purposes, or to prepare students for degree study at Western.

The IEP offers small class sizes (no more than 15) with exceptional faculty who all have Master’s degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or related fields and many years of teaching experience globally and in the U.S.  The program provides ample opportunities for students to improve their spoken and written English through classroom work and interactions with American university students, students from many different countries and community members. Students live on campus with American roommates and are totally immersed in our language and culture.

Our program offers the most class hours (24 hours per week) and level offerings (Level 1-6) amongst all the IEP programs offered in this region.

Conditional Admission

IEP’s vision is to share the Western Experience with as many students as possible through enrollment to Western Washington University.  Students may apply simultaneously to the IEP and for conditional admission to Western without TOEFL or IELTS scores.  Upon completion of the IEP (Level 6), students may enroll in Western’s undergraduate degree programs.
