All workshops are supervised by Dr. Deborah Currier and taught by upper-division Western theatre and education students.

Participants at both the elementary and secondary level will enjoy dynamic workshops and gain skills in a variety of areas, including:

  • Improvisation
  • Vocal and body warm-up techniques
  • Monologue and scene writing
  • Stage movement, blocking and directing
  • Technical theatre skill building
  • Audition skill building
  • Choreography for the stage

Summer Production: Monster Keeper

Monsters are all around us.  Be a part of the action as Western’s Department of Theatre and Dance stages this fast-paced, humorous hero's tale about finding courage, friendship and self-knowledge in the most unlikely of circumstances.  Monster Keeper is a lively, all-ages stage adaptation of the best-selling middle-reader novel Demonkeeper by Royce Buckingham.

Auditions
Auditions are held on Sunday, June 1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in PAC 399 (#16 on the campus map). All SYTI participants are guaranteed a part in Monster Keeper. Specific roles for participants ages 10 and up will be cast from the auditions. Participants can choose to audition for a specific part on June 1or sign-up for a non-speaking role during SYTI. There is no fee to be a cast member of Monster Keeper.

Rehearsals
Monster Keeper rehearsals will be held July 14 – August 7, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. (depending on age of participants and role.)

Technical Rehearsals
Technical rehearsals will be held on August 2-3, Saturday and Sunday, times TBD by Technical Production Staff/Faculty.

Performances
Monster Keeper will run Friday and Saturday, August 8-9, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. on the Performing Arts Center Mainstage.
