The National Fire Protection Association has stated that from 1992 to 1996, smoking caused 10 percent of fires in college and university dormitories, sororities and fraternities.

If you smoke, remember these few safety tips:

  • Never smoke in bed.
  • Never smoke when you’re tired or impaired to avoid falling asleep when smoking.
  • Place ashes in an ashtray, NEVER flick in a wastebasket, or on furniture or rugs.
  • Dispose of smoking materials in a NON-combustible container, NEVER in paper or plastic cups or other combustible container
