Resources for Pregnant Students and Employees

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Title VII if the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are Federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex--including pregnancy and parental status--in educational programs and activities and in employment. The Equal Opportunity (EO) Office helps implement Title IX and Title VII at Western and is committed to assisting in the success of pregnant and parenting students, faculty, and staff. The EO Office can assist students and employees in connecting with other resources on campus, as well as addressing concerns if a student, faculty or staff member believes they have been discriminated against. The EO Office can also assist students and employees who believe they have been discriminated against based on pregnancy or parental status. Students who believe they have been discriminated against are encouraged to schedule a meeting with the EO Office to understand how their concern may be covered under relevant equal opportunity policies and explore how their concern can be addressed through the Discrimination Complaint Procedure.
