Progress Continues on Implementation of Gender Neutral Facilities Guidelines

Gender Neutral Restrooms Sign

The vice presidents approved university-wide Guidelines for Gender Neutral Facilities at Western last summer, and ongoing efforts continue to further gender neutral facilities on campus. Following the Guidelines, during the 2016-17 academic year additional gender neutral restrooms were identified and added to campus buildings including the Alumni House, Carver, and the Physical Plant.  Educational signs outside newly converted gender neutral restrooms help inform people about the importance of these restrooms.  In total, there are now around 40 gender neutral restrooms located in 19 campus buildings.

The interactive Campus Map shows locations of gender neutral restrooms (by selecting the map’s “accessibility” feature), and will be updated before Fall quarter so that the campus community can identify all gender neutral restrooms on campus.  Academic building directories are being updated to list the locations of gender neutral restrooms in the building, or the location of the nearest gender neutral restroom if there is not one in the building.
