The EO Office is responsible for providing legally mandated Sexual Harassment Prevention Training to all Western employees.  We also provide other trainings on equal opportunity and diversity topics tailored to the specific needs of campus offices and departments.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

Washington State law and University policy require that all new employees attend Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (SHPT).  The applicable law and policy also require current employees to participate in refresher training every few years.  New employees and other employees who have never taken in-person SHPT at Western can sign up by going here and then selecting “Equal Opportunity Office.”

The EO Office is excited to be launching an online Sexual Harassment Prevention Refresher Course in Blackboard later this year for faculty and staff who have attended in-person training in the past.  After the online course is launched, employees who need to take this Refresher Course will receive an email inviting them to take the course.

Other Equal Opportunity and Diversity Trainings

The EO Office also provides a variety of trainings, tailored to the needs of specific departments, regarding other equal opportunity, affirmative action and diversity related topics.  Recent trainings facilitated by the EO Office have included sessions for multiple departments on skills for communicating across differences, particular programs’ obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title IX, and preventing sexual harassment during internships and international programs.  Other training topics covered by the EO Office include preventing and addressing workplace bullying and harassment based on race, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and religion.

The EO Office welcomes opportunities to develop trainings to address equal opportunity matters of interest to your department or organization.  Please contact Laura Langley to learn more.
