Welcoming Campus Visitors with Disabilities
Through disAbility Resources for Students and Disability Services in Human Resources, Western works with students and employees with disabilities to provide appropriate accommodations.
Western is also philosophically committed, and required by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), to ensure that campus visitors with disabilities have access to all University programs, events and activities on campus that are open to the public. Visitors with disabilities do not need to document their disabilities in order to receive reasonable accommodations.
Examples of ensuring access and providing accommodation to Western visitors with disabilities include:
- Admitting visitors with guide dogs and service animals to buildings and activities that otherwise would prohibit animals;
- Furnishing auxiliary aids and services when necessary to ensure effective communication; and
- Operating programs to ensure they are readily accessible to individuals with disabilities.
Parking for visitors with disabilities who require parking accommodations is accommodated through Parking Services.
