Standing Committee Appointments

ACC passed a motion (forwarded by David Rossiter, seconded by Mark Kuntz) appointing Petra Fiero, Modern & Classical Languages, to the Scholastic Standing Committee, a subcommittee of RASC.

CUE - WSGE Task Force

ACC passed a motion (forwarded by Andreas Riemann, seconded by Holly Folk) to approve CUE’s recommendations regarding the formation of a Western Study of General Education (WSGE) task force, with all votes in favor of approval. The full text of the framing language can be found:

WSGE Task Force Membership

Upon presentation of the proposed Western Study of General Education (WSGE) Task Force Membership, which included the possible addition of an ACC representative, ACC passed a motion (forwarded by David Rossiter, seconded by Jennifer Keller) asking Todd Haskell, CUE Co-Chair, to add a representative from ACC to the proposed membership of the task force.  Mark Kuntz volunteered to serve in that position, and ACC subsequently passed a motion (forwarded by David Gilbertson, seconded by Josie Ellison) to approve CUE’s recommendations regarding the proposed membership of the WSGE Task Force.
The text of the motion follows and includes the modification made by Todd Haskell with the express permission of CUE:

CUE recommends the following individuals be appointed to the Western Study of General Education (WSGE) task force, to represent the group(s) outlined below:

CUP Membership

ACC passed a motion (forwarded by Andreas Riemann, seconded by David Rossiter) to revise the membership of Council on University Programs (CUP) to reflect the move of the Women Studies program to CHSS. The updated language shall read as follows:
Members. The Council on University Programs consists of seven (7) faculty members, including one faculty from each of the following Interdisciplinary programs: Honors Program, International Studies, Leadership Studies and Energy Studies (4); (11/5/13)

Ad Hoc Calendar Committee

ACC passed a motion (forwarded by David Rossiter, seconded by Janice Lapsansky) to create an ad hoc Calendar Committee to continue the work of the ad hoc Calendar Committee of last year by exploring both the desirability and feasibility of the items listed as “Recommendations for Further Consideration” in their report (see ACC Minutes of May 28, 2013) and advise ACC on which may warrant larger consideration.
The text of the motion follows:
Motion: To create an ad hoc Calendar Committee to continue the work of the ad hoc Calendar Committee of last year by exploring both the desirability and feasibility of the items listed as “Recommendations for Further Consideration” in their report (see ACC Minutes, 5/28/13) and advise ACC on which may warrant larger consideration. A report from the committee is requested by mid-Spring quarter of 2014.
Proposed committee structure:

• 2 ACC members from different colleges (also serving as the representatives from their colleges)
• One representative each from the remaining colleges
• The VPUE and Registrar as non-voting members
• 2 students
• 1 UFWW member

Change to Academic Minor Requirements

ACC passed a motion (forwarded by Mark Kuntz, seconded by Josie Ellison) to accept a proposed revision by the Registrar’s Office to language of the section of Common Requirements in the Catalog referring to academic minor requirements.  The change is to be made effective immediately.
Approved revision to the text of the Catalog is as follows:

  • A Approved academic minor, if required by the major
    • A minor is optional for students at Western Washington University unless required by an approved academic major
    • At least 50 percent of the credits required for a minor must be earned at Western Washington University

Review of Academic Honesty Policy

Karen Stout, Past Senate President, and Melinda Assink, Administrative Assistant to the Provost, presented commissioners with the current draft of the new Academic Honesty Policy and explained the rationale for recent changes and the incorporation of feedback from the Western community.  Commissioners suggested minor final revisions, and a motion to approve the updated Academic Honesty Policy document and forward it to the Senate (forwarded by Mark Kuntz, seconded by Josie Ellison) passed by a unanimous vote.

A motion to express appreciation to Karen Stout and Melinda Assink for their hard work on the Academic Honesty Policy (forwarded by Yvonne Durham, seconded by Janice Lapsansky) passed by acclamation.

Forwarding of Calendar Committee Report

The Executive Council forwarded a motion to accept the Academic Calendar Committee’s report and forward it to the Senate with accompanying comments.  Commissioners suggested minor revisions to comments and a motion to accept and forward the report with updated comments (moved by Andreas Riemann, seconded by Jennifer Keller) passed by a unanimous vote.
