WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

ACADEMIC TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF MEETING OF February 10, 2010

The Academic Technology Committee was called to order on February 10, 2010 at 4:02 PM.

Approval of the Minutes:

The minutes of February 3, 2010 were approved with three amendments.

Agenda Items:

Reports/announcements

Justina Brown announced the Center for Instructional Innovation and Assessment Faculty Development Award.

Constituent concerns:

Kacey Morrow reported that she is having difficulties updating her website due to connection issues with the U: drive. She can no longer access it from home or from her office and has contacted the help desk multiple times and has not found a solution. Frank Roberts explained that there is a solution for operating systems that are up to date with the current version of the browser; this solution should be consistent with Macs and PCs.

Derrick Mears announced that his students had come across problems when submitting assignments to Blackboard.  When students drop off .docx files to Blackboard they are automatically compressed into zip files, in order to access these files from another computer Word 2007 is needed.

John Lawson is working on helping our legislature understand the impact of some of their bills on higher education.

Discussion:

            STF Proposals

Chris Suczek followed up on proposal 3: B Gallery Boost and Upgrade.  She clarified that the monitor they are asking for would be on display outside the room, and installed using a bracket that would ensure security.

Michael Seilo followed up on proposal 6:  Assembly Robot with Vision System. The robot is meant for two labs devoted to programming the robot in various ways relating to the manufacturing process. The robot is essential because the students need the hands on experience with programming visual systems.

The following proposals were discussed:

13.

Lighting and Sound for OELS Stage

14.

Dissolved Inorganic carbon analyzer for Studying Physiology, Aquatic Chemistry, and Climate Change

15.

Huxley College GPS Equipment

16.

Huxley Toxicology Program Lab Class Instruments

17.

Student Tech Center and Library Improvements to Media, Computing and Printing

18.

Viking Village: Improve Performance and Environment

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 5:00 PM.
