WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

ACADEMIC TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF MEETING OF April 28, 2010

The Academic Technology Committee was called to order on April 28, 2010 at 4:04 PM.

Approval of the Minutes:

The minutes of April 7, 2010 were approved with three amendments.

Agenda Items:

Reports/announcements

Information Security Audit

John Lawson spoke about the Information Security Audit; he will be presenting the information at the next Senate meeting.

Center for Instructional Innovation

Justina Brown announced that her boss, Karen Casto, is leaving Western. As a result the Faculty Halftime Director position is available.

Registration Waitlist

John Lawson reported on the Banner implementation of a registration waitlist.  The waitlist will be available for 100- and 200-level courses for the initial 2010 pilot. Students must meet prerequisites and/or restrictions of the section before they are allowed on the waitlist. The first student on the list is notified via WWU email when a space becomes available, they have twenty-four hours to register for the course before they are dropped from the waitlist. Students may waitlist for multiple sections of the same course and they may waitlist for an unlimited number of courses.  Special reports with more information for faculty are being prepared and will be available to download.

There was a concern about prerequisites from other schools not being in the system, therefore not allowing eligible students to be added to the waitlist. In addition students who are taking the prerequisites the quarter preceding would also not be allowed on the waitlist.

Constituent Concerns

Office 2010

Deepinder Bajwa asked about the installation of Office 2010.  John Lawson explained that it has been released to the manufacturer, and WWU is deciding if it can be installed this summer. Faculty is not required to switch, but have the opportunity to download it at their convenience.

Earthquake Drill

The text message being received an hour late was the result of an issue with the provider, and a complaint was issued.

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 5:03 PM.
