Apply to Fairhaven College

Admission to Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies is a 2-step process. Since Fairhaven College is a college of Western Washington University, applicants must simultaneously apply to both WWU and Fairhaven College, unless you are already enrolled in WWU.


Fairhaven College Application


  1. Cover Sheet [Download Application Cover Sheet] (PDF)
  2. Essay describing educational goals and outlining any background relevant to your academic interests. *You can use the same essay for Western and Fairhaven, just make sure to include a copy with your coversheet to Fairhaven.* We would like the essay to include WHY you are interested in Fairhaven College.
  3. Two letters of recommendation from teachers or employers Letters can be included with your application or can be submitted directly from the reviewer via email to or via mail to the address below. Letters of recommendation should be submitted on appropriate letterhead with an original signature from the reviewer. (Please no personal references.) Letters must be written within the past year.
  4. Unofficial transcripts

Freshmen applying for Fall & summer quarter.

Freshman applicants who wish to visit during Explore Fairhaven Week are encouraged to apply by January 15th.


March 1*

Transfers applying for Fall & Summer quarters


October 1*

All applicants for Winter quarter


January 15*

All applicants for Spring quarter


*If any due date should fall on a weekend then applications will be accepted until 5:00pm the following Monday.

Interviews & Decisions

Fairhaven interviews all of our applicants. Interviews can be in person at Fairhaven College of by Skype or phone. Please specify your interview preference and if you have preferred times or dates. The interview will be with one of the members of our Admissions Committee and will generally take under a half hour. The Fairhaven Admissions Coordinator will email you to schedule an interview after completion of you application.


Decision Letters are mailed out 4 - 6 weeks after the application deadline.

  • Official high school and/or college transcripts
  • SAT/ACT test scores (from freshman applicants)
  • $55.00 application fee or fee waiver form

Financing your Education

Fairhaven students pay the same tuition and fees as students of other colleges at Western. Students should apply for Financial Aid through Western's Financial Aid Office.
