Stroke
Each year approximently 700,000 people suffer from a stroke in the United States (2, 3, 4, 11, 29, 38, 39).
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the US and it is estimated that for every forty-seconds, one person suffers from a stroke. (2, 3, 4, 8, 13, 30, 43)
Stroke is also a leading cause of long-term disability. (21, 22, 37, 38, 43)
The incidents of strokes are likely to increase as a result of the rise in the elderly population, along with the rise in diabetes, obesity, and physical inactivity among the general population (5, 7, 9, 33)
