Western keeps rolling. Take two more from UPS
(02/02/10)
Western took both games of the home and home series against the University of Puget Sound this last weekend. The UPS goaltender faced shot after shot Friday night and made some really big saves. Western just kept the pressure on and kept shooting. By the end of the night Western came away with a 13-1 win. Highlights from Saturday night were hat tricks from Jeff Bulger and Matt Parsons along with 5 and 4 assists respectively. After having his first career goal with Western called back a few weekends ago, Chase Bailey came up with an answer Friday night. Halfway through the second period Bailey followed up his own rebound and buried his first career goal. When asked about the goal, a teammate responded, "The whole bench went wild when he put it away. It's always memorable to bury that first goal. Chaser got one called back a few games ago, so the fact that he was able to put this one away was fun."
The Loggers were short benched Saturday night after a car accident prevented four of their players to make the trip. WWU put on a show for the fans in the last scheduled home game of the season Saturday. Puget Sound put up a strong fight, but Western's potent offense was just to much for the tired UPS players. Western skated to a 12-1 victory to celebrate their 21st win of the season. Highlights from Saturday's game was a goal and an assist for Max Janicek, a goal by Daniel Senner, and a two goal performance by Alex Bommarito.
Western has the weekend off and will head to Tri-Cities the following weekend. The Vikings are still in the process of scheduling two more games the first weekend of March. The location and opponents have yet to be confirmed, so check back often for changes to the schedule. Thank you for all your support.

Bad news Viking fans, Games versus Portland State have been cancelled
(02/02/10)
We received an email over the weekend informing us that Portland State will not be making the trip up to Bellingham this weekend. There were several reasons given for not being able to make the trip. It is to our displeasure to announce this news. We tried to find a replacement team to come up and play the minute we heard that they would not be coming; unfortunately every team was busy or not willing to make the trip on such short notice.
Western will take on the University of Puget Sound in a Home/Home series February 12th and 13th. We are currently trying to add a couple more games to our schedule. Keep checking back for updates. Once again we are just as disappointed as you are to lose two home games.

Win streak continues as Western takes two more from Gonzaga
(01/24/10)
Western had plenty of chances early Friday night, but it was the Bulldogs who struck first. Western answered right back on the next shift of the game. Two minutes later, Gonzaga snuck in their second goal of the game to make it 2-1. Western battled back from the adversity and was able to bury two goals before the end of the first period. Whatever that was said in the locker room during the intermission, got Western going. The Vikings played a much better second period backed by two Zach Dunaisky goals. Western continued to roll scoring four more goals in the third, leading them to an 11-2 victory.
Saturday's game went scoreless for the first 15 minutes before Zach Dunaisky found the back of the for his third time on the weekend. Twenty-five seconds later, senior defenseman, James Walker snuck one past the Gonzaga goaltender to give the Vikings a 2-0 leading going into the seocnd. A minute twenty-one into the period, Western left winger Greg Parsons was hauled down on a breakaway and was awarded a rare penalty shot. A look shook up on the play, Parsons decided to take the penalty shot himself. Parsons flew down the ice and beat the Gonzaga goaltender blocker side. Western was able to continue building their lead in the second outscoring Gonzaga four goals to one. Both games this weekend were a physical battle. Both teams fought hard, but in the end it was your Vikings skating to a 9-3 victory continuing their win streak.
Western will continue its home stand next weekend when they take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Vikings pick up right where they left off
(01/19/10)
It took Western 30 minutes of game one to get their legs back under them after an extended winter break. With 10 minutes to go in the second period, the line of Greg Parsons, Matt Parsons, and Jeff Bulger kicked it into gear; moving the puck to perfection, the trio scored three goals in a 55 second shift putting the Vikings up 5-0. The Vikings just kept rolling from that point on, putting in six more goals by the end of the game. Highlights from the game include a 30 shot shutout by goaltender Max Janicek, and 5-point nights for Greg Parsons, Trevor Owen, and Jeff Bulger.
Less than 10 hours after the final buzzer sounded from the first game, your Vikings were taking the ice for game two versus Walla Walla. Western got on the board first with a tic-tac-toe play on the power play by the Parsons, Parsons, Bulger line. Western put in two more before Walla Walla finally came up with an answer. After nearly 70 minutes of shutout hockey, Walla Walla was able to sneak one past the Viking goaltender on the power play. The Vikings answered back putting in two more goals before the end of the first period. The second period was no different as the Vikings continued to pressure the Walla Walla defense with shot after shot scoring six more in the second period. By the end of the night Western came away with a 14-4 victory extending their winning streak to six games. Highlights from Sunday morning's game were 1 goal, 5 assists for Matt Parsons, 4 goals and 4 assists for Greg Parsons, 4 goals and 6 assists for Jeff Bulger, and Brenden Pape scored his first career goal with the Vikings.

Western is off to a hot start. One of the best in team history, finishing the first half of the season with an 11-1-1 record. Due to last minute cancellations by Walla Walla and Puget Sound, Western's Winter Break started a little early. Vikings have a monster weekend against WSU
(11/09/09)
Another successful weekend for you Vikings as they headed east of the mountains once again, this time to face the cougars of WSU. The first period was full of scoring with your Vikings scoring first on a blast from the point three minutes into the game. Western moved the puck very well and was able to take advantage of scoring chances. With four minutes to in the first period Western forward Jeff Bulger stole the puck from the opposing defenseman in the offensive zone turning it into a short ice 2 on 1; Bulger skated towards the goal and slid the puck past the remaining defenseman to Alex "Sandy" Bommarito who rifled a shot past the WSU netminder for his first career goal in a Western uniform. At the periods end, Western headed into the locker room up 7 to 1. "Every shot we took seemed to keep finding the back of the net," said one Western player. The Vikings continued to move the puck well, finishing off the Cougars by a final score of 12-2. Highlights from Friday nights game were a nine point performance by Western forward Jeff Bulger and two goal, four assist night for Greg "The Future" Parsons. Sandy and T.O. scored their firsts on the season as well in the big win against Washington State.
Saturday night's game was played in the new Eastern facility in Cheney. Again Western started shooting early and often. The Washington State goalie turned away the first few shots with the help of his posts and crossbar. It was only a matter of time before WWU would put one home. The scoring started with a blast from the point by defenseman James Walker. Walker's goal was quickly followed by nicely designed power play goal by Matt Parson's. After that the flood gates opened up and your Vikings put in four more by the end of the 1st. Up 6 to 1, the Vikings went into a little more passive scheme; the Cougars didn't score again! Western controlled most of the game outscoring WSU 5-0 in the remaining two periods and skated to to their second win of the weekend defeating WSU by a final score of 11-1. "They were getting a little chippy out there, but we did a good job of skating away from the BS and just kept playing our game," said one Western player. Highlights from Saturday's game were a playmakers (3 assists) by Nate Havko, 1 goal and 3 assists by Matt Parsons, 2 goals, and 1 assist by Aaron Voth and a hat trick (3 goals) and 1 assist by Western forward Jeff Bulger.

(10/27/09)
Your Vikings returned home following a very successful weekend. Western traveled down to Portland State to take on the PSU Vikings with only half of their roster. Despite being short on guys and the long car ride, Western came out ready to play. Four minutes in Jeff Bulger tallied the first goal of the game and there was no stopping WWU after that. The Western offense dialed it in, while the Western defense and goaltender Daniel Senner turned away the PSU offense. Western ended the period up 4-1 thanks to a natural hat trick from Freshman JC Smith. The two Vikings teams continued to pound away. After all was said and done, you Western Vikings came away with a big win by the score of 9-2. The second night was a hard fought battle. WWU led the through the first 55 minutes of the game. After a couple of missed calls Western's ten skaters just seemed to run out of gas in the last five minutes and PSU took advantage of it. PSU tied the game up with three minutes to go. After the five minute overtime period and a shootout, it was Portland State who barely squeaked by. Western forward Jeff Bulger had this to say about the weekend: "You know, we came away with three of the four points and that's not a bad weekend at all on the road with only 11 guys all banged up." Western centerman Kevin "Dragon" Arsenault added "Overall everyone played real hard, we got great commitment from everyone who was there. It's just tough to play two games when you've only got half the team there."
The Vikings have this weekend off to rest up and head east of the mountains to take on the Washington State Cougars. Remember to mark your calendars for Friday November 13th when the UW Huskies come to town. Game time is 10:15 at the Bellingham Sportsplex. Season passes are also still available.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation through all the technical difficulties we have been having with the website. From here on out, everything should run smoothly allowing us to provide all our friends and family with up-to-date information on the team. On to what you're really here for.
This weekend your Vikings headed over to Spokane for a couple of always hard fought games against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Despite the six hour car ride, the Vikings came out flying Friday night. The Vikings scored first followed by a Bulldog goal knotting the score up at 1-1. After that it was all Vikings, scoring five unanswered goals. Gonzaga was able to sneak one more in, but that was all they could get. Western put up six more en route to a 12-2 victory Friday night. Highlights from the evening was a 5 point night for Aaron Voth and 4 point nights from JC Smith and Jeff Bulger.
Rolling from the previous nights win, Western came out Saturday not missing a beat. Building an early two goal lead, Western was able to keep up the pressure forcing turnover after turnover. Gonzaga couldn't seem to muster up any offense against the strong Western D. The Vikings headed into the locker room up 3-0 after one. After another three goal second, Western hit the fresh sheet of ice flying to get the third period started scoring three goals in the first two shifts of the period. With about ten minutes to the first big controversy ensued. Western goaltender, Max Janicek covered to puck only to be slashed and then jumped on by an opposing player; the contact forced the puck to squirt out onto a Gonzaga players stick who shot the puck past a helmetless sprawling WWU goaltender. After further conversation, neither the ref nor the linesman saw anything and the goal counted. After the final ten minutes ticked off the clock Western skated away to their second win of the weekend by a score of 8-1.
Your Western Vikings head down to Portland, OR to take on the Portland State Vikings this weekend. If you are in the area, come one out to support your Western Vikings. Gametimes are 7:00pm Friday and 7:00pm Saturday at Valley Ice Arena.
