WWU Ice Hockey Club Mission Statement and Constitution
The mission of the Sport Club Program at Western Washington University is to promote individual leadership through group participation. Campus Recreation Services is committed to providing resources to campus community members as they strive to attain their goals both academically and through their sport club involvement.

Section 1. The official name shall be the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club.
Section 1.The goal of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club shall be to help provide the opportunity for Western Washington University Students to compete in an organized hockey league, promoting fair play, social atmosphere and an arena to develop physical and social skills.
Section 1. Any student of Western Washington University (minimum 1 credit) is eligible for membership. Alumni and Whatcom Community College students are also eligible. Additional league requirements for academic eligibility may be applicable depending on the league.
Section 2. Any member of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club will be subject to its monetary dues to help financially support the team. This will be an equal cost among full-time students, but may be different for Whatcom Community College students and Alumni.
Section 3. The members of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club must provide their own equipment for Ice Hockey, including skates, sticks, helmets, pads, etc. The equipment requirements may vary depending on league requirements, i.e., full face shield required for full-contact, etc.
Section 4. All members of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club must be registered with USA Hockey on an annual basis. All members must also carry individual health insurance coverage, either personal or via student health plan.
Section 5. All student members must have a minimum 2.00 GPA to be eligible for participation.
Section 6. A minimum of 50% of the members of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club must actively participate in fund-raising activities organized by the members of the club. A minimum of 33% must participate in a minimum of 2 hours of community service each, with such service being approved by the Club President prior to participation.
Section 7.A member may be expelled from the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club if a minimum of two-thirds of his/her team (i.e., B-Team or A-Team) vote to expel. A member may be suspended by the President of the Ice Hockey Club until such a vote takes place. This vote must take place within two weeks of the notification that the player has been suspended.
Section 1. Officers of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club must meet once a month during the hockey season to discuss the status of the club, planned fund-raisers, community service, etc. The meeting time will be set by the officers during the first week of the beginning of the season.
Section 2.Emergency meetings may be called at any time by any officer of the Club.
Section 1. The President of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club shall oversee all operations of the club. It shall be his responsibility to organize team meetings and supervise the responsibilities of the executive officers. He shall be a representative on the Sport Club Council, attending all meetings, unless substituted for by another executive officer. If any dispute or question is to arise which is not covered by this constitution, and such a dispute requires immediate attention, then the President shall have the authority to make a decision on such a dispute.
Section 2. Treasurer. The treasurer shall oversee the finances of the club, including income from players, fund-raisers, gate admissions, etc. He/she shall work closely with the President in budgeting club finances for the current and upcoming season. The President may also serve as Treasurer.
Section 3. Program Director. The Program Director shall be responsible for organizing fund-raising activities, community service programs and home game operations.
Section 4. Special Advisors (up to 3). Special Advisors work closely with the President to develop ideas and serve as links between the individual members of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club and the Sport Club Council.
Section 1. Members of the Executive Council may serve an unlimited amount of consecutive terms (each term is one year), yet must still be nominated annually.
Section 2. Members of the Executive Council are nominated by the members of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club. If the nomination is accepted by the individual, then a simple majority of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club is required.
Section 3. Elections shall be held during the last 2 months of the season for the upcoming year. If requested by a minimum of 1 members, a secret ballot shall be held.
Section 1. Club dues will be due within the scheduled times as organized by the President and/or Treasurer. Failure to pay these dues will result in suspension of club benefits and privileges until payment in collected.
Section 2. Money for expenses on road trips limited to lodging and travel (auto rental, fuel) shall be included in the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club Budget and reimbursement to members for such expenses must be within 2 weeks following the trip. Itemized receipts of expenses must be kept in legible form, otherwise reimbursement is null and void.
Section 3.A minimum of 20% of allocated funds must be raised via fund-raising efforts of the sport club. These efforts shall be organized by the Club Members and the Program Director.
Section 1. The Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club shall be an organized college club hockey team recognized by USA Hockey.
Section 2. As determined by the players of the Intercollegiate Club Team, the ICT shall be recognized by the American Collegiate Hockey Association as a Division II Team, subject to the requirements and benefits granted by such membership.
Section 3.The Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club shall strive to be a member in good standing with any organization that it chooses to be a member.
Section 1. A coach or instructor may be selected by the Executive Council to aid in the develop of the members of the Western Washington University Ice Hockey Club. The position shall be on a voluntary basis only and shall not receive any monetary compensation.
Section 2.A coach or instructor will only be hired if a majority vote of the Executive Council is present.
Section 3. A coach or instructor may be terminated if a majority vote of the Executive Council is present for such an action.
Section 1. This constitution shall be approved by unanimous vote of the Executive Council.
Section 1.An amendment may be presented to this constitution by a member of the Executive Council. Such amendment would require a majority vote of the Council to be added.
Section 1. Selection of Players / Tryouts. If there is to be a division of teams during the season, i.e., an intercollegiate team and a rec league team, and there are sufficient number of players to compete on both, then tryouts shall be held to select the players eligible for each team.
Section 2.The coach or instructor shall select the players for his team. If no coach or instructor is present, then the Executive Council will meet following the try-outs and select the teams.
Section 3. Selections will be based on skill, attitude and commitment.
