Western Washington University Summer Quarter

Faculty and non-tenure track faculty eligibility for the PEBB insurance package is based on the academic year. Academic quarters for the year are defined by Western Washington University. All quarters are 3 months in length:

Fall

September 16 - December 15

Winter

December 16 - March 15

Spring

March 16 - June 15

Summer

June 16 - September 15*

*Summer quarter appointments of less than three full months duration will be "averaged" over the full 3 months of the quarter to equalize the appointment with the other three academic quarters in order to determine PEBB eligibility.

Examples:

  • Summer quarter faculty appointment: Session A only (4 weeks); 100% appointment. Summer quarter (3 month average) for the appointment = 33% FTE
  • Summer quarter faculty appointment: Session A and B (total of 8 weeks); 100% appointment. Summer quarter (3 month) average = 66% FTE
  • Summer quarter faculty appointment: Session A and B (total of 8 weeks); 50% appointment. Summer quarter (3 month) average = 33%

Qualifying life events such as the birth or adoption of a child; adding a a spouse or domestic partner; or death of a family member an impact insurance eligibility. You are responsible for notifying Western Washington's Benefits Office of any changes in your family or employment circumstances. Prompt enrollment or removal of a dependent ensures access to benefits when needed and ensures that unnecessary benefits will be appropriately ended.
