Class Description: Tai Chi practice involves learning proper breathing techniques, the bio-mechanics of posture and movement, balance exercises and stretching. Some of the exercises are very simple, taking minutes to learn, yet years to master. Other exercises, such as the form, take some people years to learn, leading to continued mental freshness as years of practice progress.
Any modifications can be made as needed in this class.
This class does not involve equipment, and will be done in mostly the standing position. Wear something you are comfortable in, sign up, and enjoy!
Information on Tai Chi Chuan: Tai Chi Chuan is descended from Taoist and early Chinese yoga techniques. In the 20th century it became popular for the myriad health benefits that can be derived from its practice, and these health benefits have been strongly supported by science in the past decade. Some of the notable studies have found it to be one of the best forms of exercise for people who suffer from diseases such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, or the complications of old age. Indeed, it is an unusually appropriate form of exercise for anyone who has suffered traumatic injury or illness due to its gentle yet powerful movements.
