No prerequisites required

  • How do I go about declaring the major in Environmental Science or Environmental Studies?  Return to Index
An undergraduate student must apply and be accepted to Huxley College  to be declared a major.  The application is available on-line and must be submitted prior to the following dates: April 25th for fall quarter, October 6th for winter quarter, and January 15th for spring quarter. (If date falls on a weekend, applications are due the following Monday.)
  • Is there a cumulative GPA requirement for Huxley?  Return to Index
A specific GPA is not required.  Admission to Huxley College and its majors is selective and  based upon the following four criteria: 1) completion of required preparatory course work, 2) academic performance (GPA), 3) a brief essay in response to a given question, and 4) other factors that the applicant believes  relevant to the qualifications for admission.
  • Will my A.A. degree from a community college fulfill my Huxley prerequisites?  Return to Index
  • An A.A. degree will not fulfill the preparatory classes for Huxley admission.  Although an approved Associates degree will meet the University's GUR requirements, the Huxley prerequisites are separate and must be substantially completed before application to the program.  Preparatory classes may be completed at WWU or at another college or university.  Check the B.A. transfer equivalents page or B.S. transfer equivalents page for appropriate courses at Washington community colleges.

  • What transfer courses are equivalent to the required prerequisites?  Return to Index
  • The Transfer Equivalents pages (B.A. transfer equivalents or B.S. transfer equivalents) provides equivalents from Washington community colleges.  For other colleges or universities, contact the Huxley Undergraduate advisor.

  • Would it be better to have an AA direct transfer degree or an AS degree from a Washington Community College? Return to Index

Huxley prefers that students complete their AA direct transfer degree in order to have all of their General University Requirements complete. The Associate of Science degree does not fulfill WWU's General University Requirements.  It is recommended that a student also complete as many of the preparatory classes as possible at a community college.  It is especially important that students complete their math preparatory classes before transferring to Western

Questions about Registration/Overrides for Huxley Courses

Many course are closed until Huxley majors have registered and may be open in phase II of registration.  You will have the option of adding your name to the waitlist if the class is full and restrictions have been lifted. See the individual department waitlist policies: ESCI and ESTU.
