Joint Field Office, Salem, OR
An exciting, but immediate, opportunity has arisen. Jeff Sinchak down at the Salem, OR Joint Field office for the December flooding disaster has offered to have a student or two come down and visit. This would be a two day visit in the next week and allow you to see what a JFO looks like. It’s a great opportunity. If any one is interested, let me know immediately and we’ll set something up.
Please contact Rebekah Green, Rebekah.green@wwu.edu or (360) 650-4337, for more information.
Here are the details Jeff sent:
* Lodging would be at your expense.
* Best benefit would be to see a JFO in operation and spend time
with the Small Business Administration folks. They deal directly with business interests that have been impacted. In addition, the Public Assistance Branch oversees Public Works projects, and spending time with them will show you how public infrastructure is dealt with after a disaster.
* Two days would probably be sufficient to spend time with both of the elements described above.
* Time frame would be best between the 14th thru the 22nd, as I will be departing the JFO on the 23rd. Other dates are possible, I will just need to hand you off to one my co-workers to get you signed in.
