Los Angeles ShakeOut observtion, calling all interested students and researchers
On November 13, 2008, Los Angeles and surrounding communities will engage in a major seismic drill. This drill will involve public officials, infrastructure management personnel, emergency response, and the wider community.
These events offer significant opportunities to observe preparedness, emergency response and community awareness in a situation that is about as close to a potential large-scale earthquake as possible. Because this poses a significant research and learning opportunity, IGCR, in partnership with RiskRED and other groups, will be looking to coordinate with local, regional and international groups to use this as a research and learning opportunity. Activities could include public surveys, public observation, shadowing of individuals engaged in the drill, and assessment of various components of the drill for lessons and potentially under-addressed problems for communities with seismic and other natural hazard risk.
Students, faculty, and other interested individuals or groups should contact IGCR or Rebekah Green at Rebekah.green@wwu.edu or (360) 650-4337 for more information.
